Official Endorsement: US Senator

Senator Kay Hagan

This choice is more of a referendum on Elizabeth Dole than a desire to see Kay Hagan in Washington. Senator Hagan has been a big player in state government the last several years. North Carolina, in the last several years, has become one of the most desirable states to live. It’s the reason, that I believe, that in state races, being a part of the system is not a bad thing.

Elizabeth Dole was elected in 2002, and succeeded Jesse Helms in the Senate. To many observers, this was good move. Dole had clout, Helms’ biggest asset, and was not controversial, Helms’ biggest negative.

However, Dole has proven to be a very ineffective senator. She was recently ranked as the 93rd most effective senator out of 100. So, the best reason to choose Dole is becoming her worst. Reasons to vote against Dole are mounting.

First, while she did grow up in North Carolina, she has not called this state home for decades. I prefer somebody who represents me to at least see what I see. Second, she has proven to be a rubber stamp for the Bush policies and that just will not do. Third, she was a vocal opponent to the updated GI bill, which would allow every veteran a complete opportunity to serve.
