This is why the media is covering Barack Obama more than John McCain. He sells. Every poll shows Obama supporters are excited about the election and McCain supporters are not. The more excited people are about the election, the more likely they are to watch it.
How often do you hear screams about liberal bias? The screams are pretty loud. These people are basing their arguments off of emotion. They have not studied the media. I really wish they would. If they did, they would learn that the media, in general, is bias, but it is not based on political ideology. One school of thought is the Propaganda Model which is based on filters. The filters are ownership, funding, sourcing, flak, and anti-ideology. Study it sometime.
Also, as I have mentioned before, the "media" is a very broad term. For example, you cannot claim that all media has a liberal bias. Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity are obviously not liberal. Many mainstream outlets have a pro-corporate view because they are owned by corporations however, many new media outlets are independently owned.
Most news media outlets have one main goal, money. This gets back to Obama V. McCain. Obama sells magazines and raises your ratings. That is, whether you bash or praise him. For a long time, the position of the media's most popular politician was held by John McCain. Published columns, Daily Show appearances, and best selling books were major parts in painting him as the Senate "maverick."
Obama however, like Reagan and Kennedy before him, has created a crossover appeal, from political junkies to pop culture loving Americans. When 80,000 people in Oregon and 200,000 people in Germany come to see you, you are a superstar. If you book moose lodges, you're just another guy coming through town.
Bottom Line? If you want equal time for the politicians, you better start lobbying for the Fairness Doctrine to be reenacted. Ask Limbaugh, Hannity, and Beck if they are cool with that.
