Chickens for Muslims

Tyson Foods drew tons of criticism for substituting Labor Day for a Muslim holiday. Now, as a compromise they have given the Labor Day holiday back and included an extra "personal" holiday that Muslims can choose to use to celebrate their holiday and others choose to do whatever they want. (AP)

If you listen to conservative talk radio, as I often do, you may have wondered if they detonated a bomb disguised as the baby Jesus. That analogy may be over the top but, it allows me to bring up my main point about the backlash.

The overwhelming majority of Americans do not have to work on Christmas. Even if Christmas falls on a Saturday or Sunday, workers are given at least one day off. Most Americans get either Good Friday or Easter Monday off. Every school system in America is set up to allow for celebration of both Christmas and Easter. But, one union lobbied for their workers to have a Muslim holiday off. Who cares that hundreds of Muslims have been forced to work on one of their holiest days? Honestly? You should.

Should I explain that Christmas as a national holiday is completely unconstitutional? Christians get so many breaks. We have no idea how good we have it. Do not give me the argument that Muslims in America have it better than Christians in Saudi Arabia. Middle Eastern human rights should not be our benchmark. We should strive to include everybody.

Bottom Line? This is oversimplifying the problem but think about it. If we were nicer to Muslims they may not want to kill us as much.
